TRN-TA1 Max review
My review on the TRN TA1 Max.
I have been using the TRN TA1 Max for a few months now and I think it’s time to write a review on it.
Packaging
Upon receiving the TRN TA1 Max I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accessories and the unboxing experience, especially given the affordable price point of only $40. While it is true that many budget in-ear monitor (IEM) manufacturers tend to skimp on the unboxing experience, there are certainly exceptions in the IEM world.
Nonetheless, with the TRN TA1 Max, I was impressed by the thoughtful attention to detail that went into the packaging and presentation of the product. From the sleek and sturdy carrying case to the variety of ear tips included, it was clear that the makers of the TRN TA1 Max had put in a lot of effort to ensure that their customers would be satisfied with not just the IEMs themselves, but the entire unboxing experience.
Build quality
The TRN TA1 Max is a lightweight and ergonomic iem at a reasonable price. The Shells are made of solid, lightweight aluminum with a brushed finish that covers the entire iem. The bullet style design is user-friendly. The metal grill under the tips looks sleek and classy, providing a more premium feel than cheap mesh filters.
The shells of the earbuds have a semi-open back structure, which not only gives them a sleek appearance but also serves a functional purpose. In addition to the large semi-open back vent, the earbuds also have a small vent hole near the nozzle on the front. The tips of the earbuds are not too short nor too shallow, but rather quite nice, and I found that using slightly longer tips improved the fit and extended the earbuds just a bit deeper into my ears. This added depth also helped to further enhance the sound quality and overall listening experience.
The TA1 Max has a 2-pin detachable cable which is made from high-purity silver-plated OFC copper. The 2-pin connectors are reversed for better longevity and more secure fit.
You can see the case was a little dented but that was actually my fault. I accidentally dropped it on the floor. So yes, it’s pretty easy to get dented, be careful with it.
All in all, the TRN TA1 Max is a well-built, lightweight, and ergonomic iem that is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
Sound quality
The TRN TA1 Max is a U-shaped to W-shaped IEM that leans more toward W-shape. It has a fun and immersive sound, with a warm and harmonious replay. The hybrid setup blends technologies nicely.
The bass is tight and bountiful, with speedy delivery. The mids are slightly recessed with a forward presentation, and the treble area is well-extended and melts into the rest of the signature.
The sound is smooth with good resolution for the price segment, without any fatiguing or piercing elements. The signature is clean yet vibrant and dynamic. The balanced cable takes advantage of a balanced source, and scaling up with power is noticeable.
Though the soundstage is not the widest, it is still quite good for the price. The imaging is precise and the separation is decent. The TRN TA1 Max is a great all-rounder that can be used for a variety of genres.
Comfort
The earpieces are small and fit well in the ear. They are comfortable and do not cause any discomfort.
Conclusion
The TRN TA1 Max is a good pair of earphones. It has good build quality, good sound quality and good comfort. A good pair of earphones for the price.
